All manner of commands can be taught to our canine friends. This ranges from those who assist their people to those who have learned many tricks. But when a particularly gifted black Labrador from England unexpectedly displayed his surprising surfing abilities, the entire shoreline was taken by surprise. There are thousands of views and hundreds of comments on a video showing him catching a wave that was posted to Facebook.
On a recent Saturday afternoon, Fistral Beach visitors received more than simply the lovely sea views. The adorable sight of a Black Lab and his father surfing in the Cornish Sea caught the attention of beachgoers. Fortunately for us and internet users everywhere, another beachgoer was able to take a picture of the breathtaking spectacle.
The stunning Black Lab can be seen at the beginning of the video sitting still on the back of his surfboard. The man behind him on his board watches in awe as the dog catches a wave and appears to sail to shore with ease. A human surfer even immediately falls off his board in the background as the Lab flies by and moves towards the sand. Beachgoers from all around the shore were enthralled by the dog and didn’t hold back when asked what they thought.
He was undoubtedly superior to many human surfers I’ve seen, in my opinion. The cameraman, Kerryn Groves, said, “I’m a great dog lover, so I sat and watched the doggie and his owner for a while since it was loving every minute. The Lab’s father was seen retrieving the surfboard and carrying it out to sea as his canine buddy swam behind him, Kerryn recalled. When they had arrived at their destination, they waited for the ideal opportunity together before the Lab leaped on board and rode a wave back to shore.
The dog’s owner had undoubtedly taught him how to surf, and they appeared to do it frequently, Kerryn said. The Lab looks back towards the sea as he approaches the land, almost as if he wants to make sure his doggie dad notices his accomplishment. His father then runs into the frame as he bounces off his board and prances in the shallow water, and they embrace warmly. After such an amazing job, a party is in order!
