In Long Beach, California, Alyson Aguerrebere was out for a run when she spotted a small white dog ahead of her on the path. She grew concerned when she realized the dog wasn’t wearing a leash. Aguerrebere stated to The Dodo, “She just seemed lost.” She was looking at me from about 40 feet away when I got close to her, and it wasn’t until then that I noticed the sign.
When the dog quietly approached Aguerrebere, she saw the huge lawn sign alerting onlookers to the dog’s plot. “I’m Harper,” was written on a piece of the board below the dog’s Instagram account. I’m a local. I act lost to get you to stop and pet me. As she was the most recent victim of Harper’s pet scam, Aguerrebere recognized that it was a well-known practice.
The sign was funny, and I realized she treats everyone like this, Aguerrebere remarked. Consequently, I sat down and petted and rubbed her tummy for almost 25 minutes. The three-year-old rescue dog now demands constant attention after being adopted by a caring family. The small dog is permitted to spend time in the front yard and receives affection from neighbors, but her owners are constantly present to ensure that she doesn’t cause any mischief.
“After 25 minutes, her owner walked out and asked, ‘Oh, did she deceive you into giving her love?'” said Aguerrebere. She claimed that she does it frequently, many times each day and that the attention she receives keeps her from ever wanting to enter the house.
Aguerrebere instantly rolled over to give Harper belly rubs, and at one point Harper crawled into her lap. As much as Harper enjoyed their unplanned playing, so did Aguerrebere. I love her,” Aguerrebere stated. “She totally made my day,” She said.
