A chance encounter with a sick bird in a park in Australia resulted in an extraordinary animal friendship that is bringing joy to people all over the world. The Israili family and their dog Milo came across an injured bird in a Melbourne park one day while walking Milo. Abdul and his daughter Charlotte took the galah, which had a damaged wing, to their house to take care of it. The bird immediately charmed Milo, a Staffordshire Terrier Blue Heeler mix, and he would sit by the bird’s cage as his wing mended.
After the bird’s wing was healed, the family let him out of his cage so he could go back to the wild; but, he decided to stay, and they gave him the name “Cracker”. To get closer to the watchful Milo, Cracker started to descend to the bottom of the cage. And through the cage, Milo would attempt to lick Cracker. Cracker eventually lowered the cage’s exterior wall to Milo’s side on the floor. Charlotte kept a watchful eye on their relationships, but they were kind and caring to one another. They soon started sleeping together and following each other throughout the house.
This new acquaintance was just beginning when Cracker flew off and vanished. There was no trace of Cracker while the family searched the neighborhood. Milo was disturbed, whining, and searching for his friend who had vanished. According to Charlotte, there is a minimal likelihood of ever finding Cracker again because they believe he has returned to the wild. However, Lort Smith Animal Hospital announced online that they had discovered a galah two weeks later.
There’s no way we’re going to find our galah, we thought when we saw the Facebook post two weeks later. They all appear to be the same since there are so many people in Australia, remarked Charlotte. However, it was Cracker and their reunion when he returned home and saw Milo was quite joyful! For hours, Charlotte recalled, Milo grinned from ear to ear while they simply licked each other and Cracker made kissy noises to Milo. It was just so adorable.
