Every Friday for the past two years, Lily the Labrador has waited in her yard for her best friend. This reliable friend always stops to play with Lily and brings her treats and pets when he walks by. David picks up trash in the neighborhood.
Lily has always loved spending time in her front yard in Bedford, New Hampshire. She likes to sit and observe people as they pass the house, and she is always ready to defend her family from any nefarious squirrels that might dare to trespass. When people would say hello as they passed, Lily used to look forward to them. Her tail was wagging as she greeted both the canvasser and the mailman. But she was not receiving the attention she wanted.

Being an observant dog, Lily saw that a man would show up every Friday to pick up the garbage cans that her family had left out every Thursday night. Lily expected to hit it off with this man right away. One of Lily’s owners, Ishaan Chatterjee, told The Dodo that “their bond has developed into the nicest thing.” To express our gratitude for the way he treats Lily, “We give our garbage man holiday gifts every year.”
Lily and David’s relationship experience unique things. Although Lily displays affection to everyone, even those who aren’t dog lovers, Chatterjee asserts that he can detect a stronger bond between Lily and David.
Even though it surely has something to do with the treats in his pockets, Chatterjee believes Lily’s connection with David is also a reflection of her ability to see the best in people. No matter who you are or what you do, Lily will always return your kindness.
