A video of a Rottweiler’s amusing response to the fact that he did not get his tennis ball has made the dog an Internet sensation. On May 19, the original video was uploaded on TikTok by user @silkinday under the title “Don’t scare me like that #dogsoftiktok #rottweiler #saddog #poordog.”
It depicts a Rottweiler by the name of Silkin Day, who is two years old, dozing off on some outdoor steps close to some flower pots. The concerned owner of the dog writes in the text that “he hadn’t moved for a long” because the dog doesn’t appear to be moving. “I heard him crying,” she said.
The owner of the dog is subsequently led to assume that the dog has “injured himself again” after seeing the unhappy expression on the dog’s face. The next thing that the camera catches a glimpse of is a yellow tennis ball that had become wedged in a crack between a wooden railing, a flower pot, and the stairs. When the dog’s master goes for the ball, he hands it to the canine companion, who is delighted to gnaw on it. This is undeniably the cause of his “mourning” slump!
It should come as no surprise that his emotional reaction rapidly went viral on Reddit and TikTok, accumulating 1.7 million views and 248,800 likes respectively. In addition, a clip repost was uploaded to the “Unexpected” topic on Reddit, where it has since garnered a total of 102,000 upvotes and 600 comments.
One user of the website Reddit made the following observation: “I adore his look when he understood what you might be doing.” He didn’t want to get his hopes up, but it was clear that he was getting excited. While still another made light of the situation by joking, “This is like the human version of not being able to reach their phone.” Another user on the website referred to the dog’s behavior as “grieving” over the ball, while another referred to him as a “drama queen.”
In any event, Silkin Day’s performance is undeniably Oscar-worthy and deserving of the award!
