A Dachshund that was left alone with a kitten that had a disability remained stubbornly by the side of her friend the entire time. The Seminole County Animal Services in Florida discovered the two abandoned together at the bottom of a driveway. When the people from animal control came closer, Ruth’s Dachshund, Idgie, who was 2 years old, barked and defended her territory. The cat, who was only 7 months old, had no use of her legs and could only walk by dragging herself down the ground.
They were placed in the same room when they arrived at the shelter, and ever since then, they have been inseparable. Idgie, who was given the names of characters from the movie Fried Green Tomatoes, is Ruth’s loyal companion. If she obtains a new toy, she will show it to Ruth as soon as she can after bringing it over to her. She positions herself such that she is between the other dog and Ruth whenever another dog arrives. And whenever Ruth is moved somewhere else without her, she becomes very agitated about the situation.
Thank goodness, they were able to find a new home together with Jacqueline Borum, who, throughout her career, has fostered and placed in new homes thousands upon thousands of dogs and cats. In addition to that, she is the proprietor of Hollywood Houndz Boutique & Spa, which is frequented by Idgie and Ruth. They do all of their cuddlings and playing together in a spacious pen that is located by the front window.
The two are the favorites of the clients that come in and receive a lot of love and attention from the entire crew. They are also the favorites of the employees. “I mean, we’ve seen friendships between dogs and cats before, but never anything like this,” Borum said in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel. Ruth was given mobility assistance in the form of a kitty wheelchair thanks to Borum’s efforts.
The relationship between the two closest friends has lasted to this day. Borum was quoted as saying, “They truly are the best of friends!”
