When Kai the Golden Retriever was originally brought to the notice of his foster mother, Pam, he weighed a staggering 173 pounds and was an incredible 100 pounds overweight. Kai’s previous owners obviously did not care for him, and they almost put him to sleep when they brought him to a veterinarian to have him put down since he had trouble standing up on his own.

However, the veterinarian declined to do it since he could tell Kai still had some life in him. At that point, he was saved, and Pam started taking care of him as a foster pet. She divulges that he was “actually incapable of doing anything.”

Twenty minutes was the amount of time it took him on the first day he returned home to climb three flights of stairs and enter her house.

Due to his extreme obesity, Kai could only manage five to ten steps per day; he had a long, long way to go before he reached his goal of losing one hundred pounds.

But Kai did not give up on himself at any point. And Pam did not lose hope for him at any point. Kai’s weight loss and transformation into the dog he was destined to take place in measured but steady increments from day to day. And look at Kai now! He appears to be in great physical and mental health. In the uplifting video that may be found below, Kai takes you through his incredible recovery from an illness.
