Second Graders Drawinging Shelter Dogs To Promote Adoption Successfully Reach Their Goal

Posted on June 1, 2022 by TrueNews

Norah Wimer, a volunteer with Adoption First Animal Rescue was attempting to think of ways to speed up the adoption process for some of the rescue’s canines. She was immediately motivated after reading an article on a project in which a class of children assisted in the adoption of shelter dogs.

Wimer asked her son’s second-grade teacher if the class would want to write bios for some of the rescue dogs to assist them to find homes. The students were ecstatic when they learned about the project and realized that their thoughts and drawings may help a dog in need. The youngsters were given the option of choosing which dogs they wanted to write about, and many of them chose dogs with impairments to demonstrate how beautiful they are despite their peculiarities. Each bio included a short write-up and a painting, and the children worked tirelessly to highlight each dog’s distinct characteristics.

The teacher delivered the profiles to Wimer once they were all finished, and she was blown away – the whole thing had gone even better than she could have dreamed.  “When I read the profiles, I was blown away,” Wimer told The Dodo. “They were adorable, and you could see the kids worked hard on them.”  Some of the bios were lovely, some were amusing, and all of them were distinctive and gave the dogs who were impatiently awaiting adoption some personality.

“Alfie’s has to be my favorite,” Wimer stated. “The student wrote, ‘When we get to my new home, I’ll be apprehensive at first, so I might need some space to look around.’ I think I’m lovely, but I don’t realize I’m a dog, so I can’t look in the mirror.’

The profiles are already on display on the rescue’s Facebook and TikTok sites, and the canines featured in them have already made a difference in their lives. “They’ve piqued people’s interest,” Wimer remarked. “We’ve adopted Baylor, Tink, Kevin, and Tygra.” Silco and Alfie are on trial (possible adopters are allowed to take adult dogs home for a week to assess if they are a good match).”

Wimer had no idea how the proposal would come out when she first proposed it. In the end, it brought delight to a complete class of children and assisted canines in need of homes, making it a big success.
