A huge dog was staying at a gas station on a motorway some 100 miles outside of Athens, Greece, when he was first noticed by a woman. Despite his skeletal physique and mange-ravaged skin, he possessed a peaceful, silent manner. His large, emerald eyes looked at the woman with trepidation.
“She fell in love with him, photographed him, and returned to Athens, leaving her heart next to him, promising to return soon.” And she succeeded. Valia Orfanidou of Orphan Pet GR says, “I went with her.”
They returned two days later and spent hours at the petrol station, “trying to help that dog who was asking for aid but refusing to let us help him at the same time.”
The woman on the other hand, was adamant about not giving up. She took a seat on the ground and tried everything she could to persuade the dog to come over to her side. The woman slowly but steadily gained his trust.
“Everything was a piece of cake after catching him and loading him into the car,” Valia recalls, “since the giant is one of the most submissive and kind animals I have ever met.” “Arnie” was the dog’s name.
Since then, Arnie has come a long way. He’s a happy, healthy sweetheart of a dog who’s been neutered. With SCARS Greece, he’s currently looking for a lifelong home (and all the volunteers are crazy about this lovable dog).
