All dogs are incredible and so loyal to their owners but German Shepherds are well-known to be devoted companions who create close ties with their owners. Nothing makes them happier than being by their owner’s side. As herding dogs, they’re always on the lookout for the people they care about.
Herders have a natural instinct to lead their herd. This attribute includes the ability to direct the movement of other animals and people, which is why they enjoy leading the way on walks with their owners. Watching and leading is a very natural habit for herding dogs.
That’s why, when this gorgeous German Shepherd and his owner go for a walk, he’s a little in front, ambling down the sidewalk, thoroughly enjoying their walk.
The startled puppy looks back and forth again to find out that his master is missing, then rapidly begins to retrace his steps, seeming more than concerned about his unexpected shift in circumstances.
He comes to a halt and glances back over his shoulder, expecting to see his owner, but…wait…what? His human is nowhere to be found. The puppy is clearly taken aback.
It’s a little heartbreaking to watch him pause and gaze back the way he came a couple times. The dog is clearly concerned and unsure of what to do, so he proceeds to retrace his steps back to where he started.
Just when we think we’ve had enough, he discovers his owner lurking behind a tree, filming the whole event. Of course, the puppy is overjoyed, and he begins to wag his tail and brighten up his sad little ears. His owner is giggling, but we assume the dog is thinking, “This isn’t so funny at all, don’t make fun of me!”
